Licensing
Microsoft XP Embedded or Linux are the most common operating systems for appliance servers. XP Embedded can currently be purchased one of two ways.
- A relatively expensive developers license, followed by less expensive per system licenses
- Per system licenses only, with a specific set of installed components, and a higher per system cost
Someone who is already building systems using XP Embedded should already know which of these two they are doing. Microsoft can assist with recommendations as well.
